Abstract
Background: Diabetic neuropathy is a complication in people with diabetes mellitus caused by nerve damage. Diabetic neuropathy causes impaired sensory functions that appear distal in the lower extremities. Diabetic neuropathy is known as diabetes mellitus which is characterized by high blood sugar levels, impaired glucose, insulin deficiency, and weakness of the role of insulin. Diabetic neuropathy causes disorders such as sensory, motor, autonomic, and ischemia or reduced blood flow which causes complications in the form of diabetic ulcers.
Objective: to identify a picture of the level of knowledge of foot care in diabetic neuropathy clients.
Methods: this study used a descriptive research design that aimed to find out the picture of foot care in diabetic neuropathy clients. The subjects in this study are 120 elderly diabetic neuropathy clients. sampling using purposive sampling technique. Data collection using 1 Diabetic Foot Knowledge Scale (DFKS) instrument questionnaire consisted of 15 questions using a true and false scale with a check list on each question.
Results: The results of the diagram of the level of knowledge of foot care in diabetic neuropathy clients were 27 elderly with good categories, 60 elderly in the medium category, and 33 elderly in the low category. This value shows that as many as 93 elderly people have a medium and low level of knowledge. This means that there are 93 elderly people who have a moderate and low level of knowledge related to foot care in diabetic neuropathy clients at the Ciptomulyo Health Center, Sukun District, Malang City.
Conclusion: An overview of the level of knowledge of foot care in diabetic neuropathy clients at the Ciptomulyo Health Center, Sukun District, Malang City has 33 elderly in the low category, 60 elderly in the medium category, and 30 elderly in the good category, so it is necessary to maximize education to increase the level of knowledge of foot care in diabetic neuropathy clients at the Ciptomulyo Health Center.
