Abstract
This study aims to describe the pattern of social media exposure to Korean culture among K-pop enthusiast students, specifically students of the Communication Science Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang from the 2019 cohort who are active users of Twitter/X. This research employs a descriptive quantitative method with a survey approach to gather data on how social media exposure to Korean culture is received by K-pop enthusiast students. The research sample consists of 50 students who actively use Twitter/X and have an interest in Korean culture. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. Data analysis techniques include correlation tests and univariate tests, as this study involves a single variable.
The results indicate that the pattern of social media exposure to Korean culture among these 50 students falls into the medium-level category, or "Medium Users," with a percentage of 48%. The findings also reveal that the process of Korean cultural exposure on social media is predominantly at the "Curiosity" level, meaning that students engage with Korean culture mainly out of a need to stay updated on trends in their surroundings. In cultural aspects such as K-pop music and Korean dramas, the intensity of exposure is categorized as moderate, whereas other aspects, such as fashion and food as well as the Korean language, have lower intensity.
