Abstract
Muhammad Wildan Dipa Amirul Bahri, 2025, 202010360311261, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, International Relations Study Program, Cyber Security Threat Analysis in Southeast Asia in Payment System Connectivity Cooperation, Supervisor I: Najamuddin Khairur Rijal, S.IP., M.Hub.Int.
This research aims to analyze cybersecurity threats in ASEAN's payment system connectivity cooperation agreed upon in 2023. ASEAN has taken strategic steps to deepen national and regional economic integration through the implementation of cross-border digital payment systems. This aims to improve transaction efficiency, support the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and strengthen financial inclusion in the Southeast Asian region. However, this digital-based payment system brings significant challenges, especially in terms of cybersecurity. Threats such as personal data leakage, financial information theft, and cyberattacks such as sniffing are the main risks that can certainly disrupt the stability of the payment system, national economy and regional economy. This research also discusses the efforts made by ASEAN member countries to overcome these threats, including collaboration between countries, strengthening the legal framework, and digital education for the country's people. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this research reveals that although this cooperation has a good impact on regional economic development, its success depends on strengthening the regional cybersecurity infrastructure. The results of this study provide recommendations for strategies to support the payment system connectivity ecosystem in ASEAN, while improving the region's defense from cyber threats.
