Abstract
Introduction: Snack foods sold in school environments often contain unhealthy ingredients, such as excessive sugar, saturated fat and sodium, which can increase the risk of health problems in children, such as obesity and non-communicable diseases.
Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of health education using audio-visual media on increasing knowledge about healthy snacks in elementary school-aged children.
Method: The method used was pre-experimental One Group Pretest-Posttest involving 70 students in grades 5 and 6 at SDN Besuk Agung, Probolinggo Regency. Health education is provided in audio-visual form which is presented in three sessions. Data was collected using a questionnaire totaling 22 questions from The CATCH Nutritional Knowledge Survey which had been tested for validity and reliability.
Results: Research shows that the majority of respondents had poor knowledge before being given health education. After the intervention, students' knowledge increased significantly, with 68.6% of students showing good knowledge, compared to only 40% before the intervention. The Wilcoxon test results show a P value of 0.000, which shows the influence of health education using audio-visual media on increasing knowledge about healthy snacks.
Conclusion: That health education using audio-visual media is effective in increasing knowledge about healthy snacks in school-aged children
