Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of a combination of low-impact aerobic
exercise with diaphragmatic breathing exercises on cognitive function in the elderly
community in Malang. The background of this study is the increasing elderly
population and the decline in cognitive function that often occurs in old age. The
research method used is a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest-
posttest approach. The subjects of the study were 31 members of the elderly
community who met the inclusion criteria. The intervention consisted of 12 sessions
of low-impact aerobic exercise and diaphragmatic breathing exercises. The results
showed a significant increase in cognitive function scores after the intervention,
with a p-value <0.05. The conclusion of this study is that the combination of low-
impact aerobic exercise and diaphragmatic breathing exercises has a positive effect
on improving the cognitive function of the elderly, so it can be recommended as a
rehabilitation program to improve the quality of life of the elderly.
