Abstract

This research discusses the efforts made by the Government of Indonesia to increase its vanilla exports to the United States. The background of this research will include the history of the entry of vanilla plants into Indonesia, the ability of domestic vanilla production, the condition of the decline in Indonesian vanilla exports to the United States. This research method uses qualitative research methods which will be described descriptively about the Indonesian government's efforts to increase cooperation in vanilla exports to the United States. The results of this study indicate that the Indonesian government's efforts to improve the quality of domestic vanilla through establishing Vanili Master Gardens located in several regions, distribution of fertilizers, and handling diseases and pests of vanilla plants. This research also analyzes the Indonesian government's efforts carried out externally involving institutions abroad to increase promotion and market access through culinary events, the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), and the Sustainable Spice Initiative (SSI). This research also provides insight into the presence of Madagascar vanilla which affects the demand for vanilla exports to the United States.
