Abstract

This research aims to describe the forms of gender injustice experienced by the main character in the novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam by Dian Purnomo, and the impact of gender injustice on the main character in the same novel. The research questions in this study are as follows: (1) What are the forms of gender injustice in the novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam by Dian Purnomo? (2) What are the impacts of gender injustice on the main character in the novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam by Dian Purnomo?
The method used is descriptive with a gender approach. The data source in this study is the novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam by Dian Purnomo. The data consists of narrative text by the author and dialogues of the character in the novel Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam by Dian Purnomo. Data collection was carried out using the documentation technique. Data analysis was conducted in three stages: First, data classification; second, data presentation; ang third, drawing conclusions.
The result of the study indicate that there are four forms of gender injustice, namely: (1) Marginalization, where the main character is forced to marry and not continue her career because women are viewed as inferior, and no matter how high a woman’s education is, she will still be looked down upon. (2) Subordination, marked by men holding higher positions, so that in every decision, it is the men who have the power to determine outcomes, leading to abuse of authority. (3) Stereotyping, where women are seen merely as caretakers, responsible for managing domestic affairs in the household. (4) Gender-bassed Violence, both physical and verbal, including harassment, assault, harsh words, torture, and threats. The psychological resulting from gender injustice are follows: (1) Trauma, where the main character experience horrific harassment and abduction that leaves her fearful when facing similar situations. (2) Depression, where the character suffers from sleep disturbances and emotional distress, leading to frustration and suicidal thoughts. (3) Anxiety, where the main character is unable to sleep peacefully due to fear of what might happen the next day.
