Abstract

PT Loka Fiber Indonesia is a supplier and exporter of kapok in Indonesia that faces issues with inconsistent quality control, resulting in customer complaints about the products. The analysis was conducted using a convergent mixed method approach, where qualitative data were obtained through interviews, documentation, and observation, while quantitative data were analyzed using Statistical Process Control (SPC). The data covered a two-year period, considering the made-to-order production system, which led to months without production activity. The SPC results indicated that the company was outside the control limits of the p-chart in March 2022, December 2022, and March 2023, signifying deviations in the production process. The Pareto diagram revealed that fiber defects (43%) were the most dominant, followed by color defects (31%) and dirt defects (26%). A fishbone analysis identified five main factors contributing to the defects: human, machine, method, material, and environment. Actions needed to reduce product inconsistency include improving resource management, particularly in controlling workers directly involved in machine operations, and enforcing stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs).
