Abstract
Background: The increasing prevalence of DM causes the emergence of various complications, one of which is diabetic foot ulcers which results in tissue death and can reduce a person's self-esteem and quality of life. This study aims to see the relationship between self-esteem and quality of life in patients with diabetic foot ulcers. In previous studies, self-esteem influenced quality of life in diabetic foot ulcer patients who had been amputated. How ever in this study to analyze whether people with diabetic foot ulcers who have not reached the amputation stage also experience low self-esteem which can affect quality of life.
Methods: This research design uses a cross-sectional study design using a Pearson approach that examines the relationship between self-esteem and quality of life in patients with diabetic foot ulcers at Rs X Malang Regency. researchers used the Rosenberg scale (RSES) and Short form-36 (SF-36) instruments to assess self-esteem and a person's Quality of Life. The sample in this study was 70 respondents by filling out a questionnaire filled in directly by patients with inclusion criteria including diabetes mellitus patients with diabetic foot ulcer complications and aged 20 years and over.
Results: This study shows that there is a significant relationship between self-esteem and quality of life of diabetic foot ulcers patients at Rs X Malang Regency with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < a = 0.05). The strength of the relationship of the variables in this study shows moderate strength with a cofficient correlation value of (.587).
Conclusion: A moderate correlation shows that self-esteem moderately affects the quality of life of patients.
