Abstract
This study aims to analyze the development of eighth-grade students' understanding of the Pythagorean Theorem using the Hypothetical Learning Trajectories (HLT) approach. The research employs a qualitative method with an exploratory descriptive design. The subjects consist of six students categorized into high, medium, and low ability groups, selected from SMP Muhammadiyah Waipare, Sikka Regency. Data were collected through written tests, observations, and unstructured interviews, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results indicate that the HLT approach is effective in enhancing students' understanding of the Pythagorean Theorem. High- ability students demonstrated significant improvement, characterized by their ability to consistently apply the concept in various contexts. Medium- and low- ability students also showed progress, although they required further intervention to fully understand and apply the theorem. Factors such as student engagement, teaching quality, and practical learning approaches contributed to the success of the learning process.
