Abstract
The Access by KAI application, which replaced KAI Access in mid-2023, brought major changes, especially in terms of User Interface (UI). This change requires users to relearn the application, where learnability becomes very important. Although the UI design has become more modern and attractive, issues with UI components still arise that affect the user experience. This is evident from the 2.5/5 rating on the download platform along with complaints in the comments regarding the user experience. UI evaluation and improvement is crucial to overcome user barriers when interacting with the app. On that basis, this research focuses on analyzing the UI of Access by KAI through a qualitative approach involving 5 users, namely 2 active users and 3 experienced UI/UX users. Two stages of evaluation were conducted using the Enhanced Cognitive Walkthrough (ECW) method. In the initial stage of evaluation, the application's UI issues were discovered, then identified and analyzed in depth using the Eight Golden Rules. This analysis revealed various UI violations such as consistency, feedback, visibility, and others, which impacted the user experience. Based on these findings, a more intuitive and consistent solution design prototype was developed based on the results of the Eight Golden Rules analysis. In the second stage of evaluation, the solution design prototype was re-evaluated using the ECW method to verify the solution. The final evaluation results showed that the prototype solution design was able to overcome the problems found in the initial evaluation. This research concludes that the combination of ECW method and Eight Golden Rules is an effective strategy in identifying and solving UI problems to improve the quality of user experience.
