Abstract
Background: WHO states that pneumonia is an acute infectious disease caused by bacterial, fungal and viral infections which is the main cause of death of children under five in the world, more than measles and AIDS. One of the factors causing pneumonia is the mother's knowledge and preventive behavior. Maternal knowledge and preventive behavior is an approach that can be taken to reduce mortality rates among children under five. The aim of this research is to determine whether there is a relationship between maternal knowledge and preventive behavior on the recurrence rate of pneumonia in toddlers.
Method: The research design uses correlation analytics with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with a sample size of 101 respondents. Data collection used a self-completed questionnaire and analysis tests used analytical tests using the Spearman Rho correlation test.
Results: The results of this study show that the majority of mothers' knowledge is in the sufficient category, 51 (50.5%) and the majority of mothers' preventive behavior is in the sufficient category, 69 (68.3%). Meanwhile, the majority of recurrence rates for pneumonia in toddlers were 88 (87.1%). The results of the Spearman Rho correlation test between maternal knowledge and preventive behavior and the recurrence rate of pneumonia in toddlers are proven by a significant value of 0.000 and an efficient correlation value of -0.452 and -0.588.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and preventive behavior on the recurrence rate of pneumonia in toddlers. The correlation coefficient value is moderate, which means that the higher the mother's knowledge and preventive behavior, the lower the recurrence rate of pneumonia in toddlers.
