Abstract

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease commonly observed in individuals with high physical activity, such as farmers. Body Mass Index (BMI) is a major risk factor for knee OA due to excessive pressure on the joints. This study aims to explore the relationship between BMI and the incidence of knee OA in farmers from Bulus Village, Tulungagung Regency. Objective: To determine the relationship between BMI and the incidence of knee OA in farmers in Bulus Village and to describe the distribution of respondent characteristics based on age, BMI status, and OA occurrence. Methods: This is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach involving 20 farmers. BMI data and OA occurrence were collected through measurements and questionnaires, and analyzed using the Spearman test. Results: The analysis showed a significant positive relationship between BMI and the incidence of knee OA (r=0.561; p=0.010). Conclusion: This study indicates a relationship between Body Mass Index and the incidence of knee osteoarthritis in farmers in Bulus Village, Tulungagung Regency.
