Abstract
Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a cancer of the bile ducts with symptoms that are often felt by patients, namely nausea and vomiting. Virginia Henderson's nursing model identifies 14 basic human needs which emphasize the importance of meeting physical, psychological and emotional needs so that Henderson's theoretical approach becomes relevant in patients with terminal illnesses. The nurse identifies basic needs that are disturbed due to nausea and vomiting in the aspect of biological needs. Therefore, this study aims to analyze cases of management of CCA patients with nausea and vomiting using the Virginia Henderson Model Theory approach.
Research Method: This research uses a case study approach in the Semeru room of Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang City. The subject of this research is the patient Mr. S, 53 years old, with a medical diagnosis of Cholangiocarcinoma who experienced complaints of nausea and vomiting, which was carried out on September 9-13 2024. Using the Virginia Henderson assessment instruments, SDKI, SLKI, SIKI, INVR Scale, and Fica instruments.
Research Results: The frequency of nausea and vomiting decreased from an INVR score of 15 (moderate) to 5 (mild). Spiritual levels improve and sleep pattern disorders are resolved based on the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards.
Conclusion: The theoretical approach of Virginia Henderson's nursing model in patients with a diagnosis of Cholangiocarcinoma can be applied. Providing non-pharmacological therapy with peppermint aromatherapy is effective in reducing the frequency of nausea and vomiting from moderate to mild.
