Abstract
Background: Anxiety is a common issue among the elderly, which can affect their
quality of life. Non-pharmacological approaches, such as Quran reading, are known
to have a positive impact on mental health, making it relevant to explore its
relationship with anxiety levels.
Objective: To analyze the relationship between Quran reading intensity and
anxiety levels among the elderly.
Methods: This observational cross-sectional study involved 32 respondents. Data
were collected using the Quran Reading Intensity Questionnaire and Zung SelfRating Anxiety Scale. Statistical analysis was performed using Spearman’s
correlation.
Results: Most respondents (78.1%) experienced mild or no anxiety. Quran reading
intensity was high to very high in 62.5% of the respondents. A significant negative
correlation was found between Quran reading intensity and anxiety levels (r = -
0.417, p = 0.018), indicating that higher Quran reading intensity is associated with
lower anxiety levels.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between Quran reading intensity
and anxiety levels among the elderly.
