Abstract

Background: Data from the VISION (2020) program estimates that 153 million people worldwide suffer from uncorrected refractive errors, including 13 million children aged 5-15 years. In Indonesia, refractive errors are the leading eye disorder, with a prevalence of about 10% among 66 million school-aged children, yet only 12.5% wear corrective glasses. In Malang Regency, screening coverage has only reached 24.5%, below the national target of 40%. Lack of parental knowledge and attitudes regarding symptoms and the benefits of refractive correction can hinder early detection and proper treatment. This research fokuses on the influence of parental knowledge and attitudes on the early detection of refractive errors in schoolchildren at SDN Ternyang 04, Sumberpucung District.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of parental knowledge and attitudes on early detection of refractive errors in primary school children at SDN Ternyang 04, Sumberpucung District.
Method: The research method used was observational analytics with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 55 participants. Data was collected using a questionnaire. Data processing was performed using the Spearman statistical test with SPSS (Statistic Package for Social Science).
Result: The results of the study showed that there was a significant influence between the level of parental knowledge on efforts to detect refractive disorders early in children of Elementary School age Ternynag 04, Sumberpucung District with a p-value of 0.006 and there was a significant influence between parental attitudes on efforts to detect refractive disorders early in children of Elementary School age Ternynag 04, Sumberpucung District with a p-value of 0.015.
