Abstract
ackground: Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is a case of coronary heart disease
that has the highest morbidity and mortality in the world. Non-ST Segment
Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) is a form of acute coronary syndrome
caused by partial blockage of the coronary arteries. A person diagnosed with
NSTEMI can experience various disorders, one of which is a breathing pattern
disorder which is usually characterized by shortness of breath, therefore nurses
must carry out management to help reduce the shortness of breath felt by the patient.
This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the position semi fowler and
administering oxygen using a nasal cannula to improve breathing patterns in
NSTEMI patients.
Method: This research uses qualitative methods, researchers collect data through
interview techniques, observation and documentation (medical records). The author
follows the scientific method according to the rules of the nursing process which
includes assessment, data analysis, nursing intervention, implementation and
evaluation referring to the SDKI, SLKI and SIKI.
Results: After carrying out nursing intervention in the form of positioning semi
fowler and administering oxygen with a nasal cannula resulted in an improvement
in the client's breathing pattern as evidenced by complaints of shortness of breath
(dipsnea) decreased, respiratory frequency and oxygen saturation (SpO2) within
normal limits RR 16-20x/minute, SpO2 ≥ 95%.
Discussion: The main nursing problem in the 2 cases in this study was that the
breathing pattern was ineffective and airway management intervention was carried
out by providing a semi-Fowler position and nasal cannula oxygen therapy to
improve the patient's breathing pattern as well as providing oxygen and position.
