Abstract
Background: Heart failure is a complex clinical syndrome that can be caused by disturbances in the myocardial function, both systolic and diastolic, valve diseases, pericardial diseases, and several conditions that can cause blood flow disorders such as fluid retention. Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARB) are one class of drugs used in the management of heart failure with a mechanism of action aimed at inhibiting the effects of angiotensin II, which plays an important role in the process of vaso constriction and fluid retention.
Objective: To describe the pattern of ARB usage in heart failure, including the type, dosage, route, frequency, and duration of use at R.T. Notopuro Hospital, Si doarjo.
Methods: This study uses observational and descriptive methods, with retrospec tive and descriptive data collection to illustrate the pattern of ARB usage.
Results and Conclusions: The single ARB usage pattern was found in 21 instances (15%), dual combination patterns in 67 instances (47%), triple combination patterns in 18 instances (12%), quadruple combination patterns in 4 instances (3%), and switch usage patterns in 33 instances (23%). The most common single usage pattern was valsartan 1x80 mg (po) in 8 instances (38%). The most common dual combi nation patterns were valsartan 1x80 mg (po) + spironolactone 1x25 mg (po) and candesartan 1x8 mg (po) + bisoprolol 1x2.5 mg (po), each in 8 instances (12%). The triple combination pattern was valsartan 1x80 mg (po) + spironolactone 1x25 mg (po) + bisoprolol 1x2.5 mg (po) in 4 instances (21%). The quadruple combina tion pattern was used in a total of 4 patients.
