Abstract
Excessive reporting on suicide can influence public perceptions. Repeated exposure to such media coverage may lead individuals to normalize suicide as an acceptable solution to difficulties, potentially resulting in imitative behavior. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between exposure to suicide news on detikcom media and perceptions of suicide. The theories used by the researchers are the Uses and Gratifications Theory and the Limited Effects Theory. This study employs a quantitative method, distributing a preliminary survey to 72 students. From the preliminary survey, 50 students met the population criteria. To determine the sample size, the researchers used the total sampling technique. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant relationship between exposure to suicide news on Detikcom media and perceptions of suicide. Based on the Spearman Rank correlation results, the significance value is 0.160 (<0.05), and the correlation coefficient is 0.202, indicating a positive relationship. Therefore, it can be concluded that H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected, as there is no relationship between exposure to suicide news on detikcom media and perceptions of suicide.
