Abstract
The Baayun Mulud ceremony is one of the Banjar traditions in Banua Halat Village, Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan. This ceremony is a form of acculturation of Banjar culture with Islam with the aim of commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This research aims to understand what the meaning of the message contained in cultural symbols such as swing cloth and Maulid verses in the Baayun Mulud ceremony in Banua Halat Village.
The researcher uses Herbert Blumer's theory of symbolic interaction. This theory can help to see the meaning of the message in the use of verse and swing cloth. Based on data obtained by researchers through interviews and observations, it turns out that the use of symbols in the Baayun Mulud ceremony also has a shift in meaning when viewed through the interpretation of meaning.
This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type and a phenomenological research basis. The documentation in this study was also taken directly by the researcher when conducting observations and interviews directly to the location of the ceremony. Then the data obtained was analyzed by Miles and Huberman's interactive data analysis.
The results of the research show that the swing cloth in this ceremony is a form of parents' hope for their children as well as a reminder for adults to grow up with a good personality like the Prophet Muhammad. Meanwhile, Maulid's poems contain messages of religious elements so that the community and ceremony participants always love the Prophet PBUH and emulate his qualities. So that the Swing and Verse Cloth is not only a cultural symbol but also a communication medium to convey Islamic religious values addressed to the people of Banua Halat Village.
