Abstract
This research aims to analyze the Pedagogical Competence of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Teachers at SMA 'Aisyiyah Boarding School Malang. In a lesson, teaching and learning activities are not enough just to transfer knowledge and lectures. Teachers are required not only to master learning material, but also to have adequate teaching competence. These competencies include the ability to manage classes, develop varied learning methods, and understand the characteristics of students. The research method used in this research is a qualitative approach, with a descriptive type. Data collection will be through interviews, observation and documentation. Then, the data that has been collected will be analyzed using the data condensation stage, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of
research in the field, the researchers concluded that significant differences were found in the mastery of pedagogical competencies between teachers who graduated from Bachelor of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and teachers with non-educational
backgrounds. Teachers with a PAI undergraduate education background show better abilities in mastering teacher competencies, especially in the aspects of classroom management and the application of varied learning methods. On the other hand, teachers with non-teaching backgrounds have their own advantages which are formed by longer teaching experience. This experience contributes to a better ability to understand student characteristics. Even though in terms of mastery of scientific
material (content knowledge) all teachers show good capabilities, the difference lies in their pedagogical abilities.
