Abstract

Monoculture allows farmers to focus on a single crop to achieve optimal
yields. Meanwhile, intercropping with companion plants, such as bird's eye chili,
can increase the total harvest per unit area and diversify income sources, which is
highly beneficial for farmers with limited land. Dragon fruit (Hylocereus
Polyrhizus) is a type of cactus plant that produces fruits with unique shapes.
Cayenne pepper (Capsicum annuum) is one of the horticultural plants with quite
high economic value. This study aims to analyze and compare the cost structure,
revenue, and income in dragon fruit farming using monoculture and intercropping
methods with bird's eye chili. Data was collected using purposive sampling for
monoculture and a census method for intercropping. The results indicate that both
variable costs and total revenue are higher in the intercropping system than in
monoculture. Average income in dragon fruit monoculture reached IDR 94.654.133
per hectare, while intercropping achieved IDR 265.093.350 per hectare. Based on
a t-test with a sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < α=0.05, the results show a significant
difference in income between monoculture and intercropping, leading to the
acceptance of H1 and rejection of H0.
