Abstract

This research was conducted among students in Malang City, for example, such as Malang Muhammadiyah University, Brawijaya University, Malang State University. This study aims to find out what the FoMO phenomenon is and its impact on the current generation Z. This research approach uses qualitative phenomenological research. The determination of the subject of this research was determined using a purposive technique. This study uses a critical paradigm with the type of data used as primary data obtained from observations, interviews, documentation and secondary data obtained from journals, books and previous research. Test the validity of the data using source triangulation. This study uses the theory of consumerism put forward by Jean Baudrillard. The results of this study indicate that the FoMO phenomenon is real and is happening right now, which is the result of advancing technology and the development of the times, not only that this phenomenon also occurs because of association, circle of friends and has a harmful impact on life in the future, one of which is is consumptive because someone is afraid of missing something that is currently viral or trending.
