Abstract

This research was conducted to understand the meaning of the Barong Ider Bumi Festival for the Kemiren community and the community participation in the Barong Ider Bumi Festival. The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of the Barong Ider Bumi Festival for the Kemiren community and the community participation in the Barong Ider Bumi Festival. The research approach employed in this study is qualitative research subject was done using purposive technique. The primary data was collected through observations, interviews and documentation, while the secondary data was obtained from journals, books and presious research. The research was conducted in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi Regency, East Jawa Province. Two theories were used in this study, namely Herbert Blumer’s Symbolic Interactionism theory and arnstein’s a Ladder of Participation theory from 1969.
