Abstract

The phenomenon of negative behavior among students in Indonesia, such as brawls, physical and psychological violence, has increased significantly from year to year. To overcome this problem, the role of parents in providing parenting is very important. In addition, character education also needs to be carried out in all Indonesian schools in the education system in collaboration with the government, which plans in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN). This study examines the effect of authoritarian parenting on students' negative behavior at SMP Negeri 4 Jombang, focusing on the impact of authoritarian parenting on negative behavior which aims to identify how authoritarian parenting affects students' negative behavior. This research is a quantitative descriptive study using questionnaire collection techniques given to a sample of 48 students with purposive sampling technique. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis using SPSS. The results of this study can be concluded that parental authoritarian parenting has a positive and significant effect on the emergence of negative student behavior (0.00 <0.05). Therefore Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. While the results of the R Square test or the coefficient of determination show a value of 0.78, which means that 78% of negative behavior is influenced by authoritarian parenting. While 22% is influenced by other factors outside this study.
