Abstract

Novels contain moral values from the stories that the author tells. Therefore, the ‘Black Beauty’ novel tells about the life of a horse named Black Beauty who gets different treatment from each owner and in this novel it is told from the horse's point of view. There is only one research problem in this research, what kind of moral values in the ‘Black Beauty’ novel by Anna Sewell. The methodology of this research is a descriptive qualitative method. In this research, the researcher analyses the moral values contained in the ‘Black Beauty’ novel. The researcher took several steps in collecting data, starting with reading the whole book carefully and repeatedly, then underlining the parts that contain moral values, and identifying according to the types of moral values. The results of this research after analyzing the ‘Black Beauty’ novel, the researcher found three types of moral values, namely Responsibility, Obligation, and Conscience. The moral value of responsibility found in the ‘Black Beauty’ novel is seven data. The moral value of obligation contained in the ‘Black Beauty’ novel is found in five data. The moral value of conscience found in the ‘Black Beauty’ novel is found in eleven data.
