Abstract

This Research discusses Ukraine's propaganda through the Ukrainian national football team jersey during Euro 2020, using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotics theory and the concept of propaganda. Ukraine's propaganda is related to the territorial dispute over Crimea with Russia. Ukraine used the Euro 2020 event to display the silhouette of the Crimean map on the Ukrainian jersey, along with the slogans Glory to Ukraine and Glory to the Heroes. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method using literature study techniques for data collection. The study found that Ukraine's propaganda through the jersey at Euro 2020, analyzed using De Saussure's Semiotics theory, demonstrated the use of the jersey as a propaganda tool to reinforce Ukraine's territorial claims over Crimea, instill a sense of nationalism, and garner international support. The study also identified four propaganda techniques: Transfer, Slogan, Beautiful People, and Disinformation. The propaganda carried out by Ukraine is categorized as Grey Propaganda.
