Abstract

Communication patterns between parents and children play a significant role in the psychological development or mental health of children, including students who have entered adulthood. Open and supportive communication from parents is positively associated with good mental health in students, while authoritarian communication is associated with high levels of stress and anxiety.
This research uses a quantitative approach. The sample used in this research was students from the 2020 class at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Data collection in this study used a questionnaire and then the data was analyzed using the t-test and coefficient of determination. The results obtained in this study show that parental communication patterns influence students' mental health by 17.9%. The results of this t-test research obtained a significance level of 0.035 < 0.05, which means that there is an influence between parents' communication patterns on students' mental health.
