Abstract
Figurative language is a style of expression that uses nonliteral meanings to convey a more abstract meaning or message. It's often used to add creative flourish to written or spoken language or explain a complicated idea. Some common types of figurative language include similes, metaphors, idioms, hyperboles, and personification. This study analyses the figurative language used in Drake's rap songs from the "Scorpion" album to identify the types of figurative language used and their meanings, with the goal of helping people understand and use figurative language more effectively. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to identify, categorize, and analyze the various forms of English metaphorical language that Drake uses in his rap tracks from the album. The study identifies and interprets instances of metaphors, similes, hyperboles, imagery, repetition, personification, and allusions to convey themes of identity, emotion, success, and struggle. The results highlight the significance of figurative language in artistic expression, offering a way to communicate intricate concepts and feelings that go beyond the literal meaning of words. Research comparing various genres or historical periods may shed more light on the development and variety of metaphoric language in music.
