Abstract

Tuli Mendongeng is a social community for deaf individuals focused on storytelling, established in 2019. Tuli Mendongeng aims to promote disability awareness among the general public. As a social community, Tuli Mendongeng seeks to inform and educate its followers and other Instagram users. The use of Instagram in this research is deemed appropriate because it utilizes the platform's multiple post feature to raise disability awareness. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using microblog content on Instagram as an educational information medium.

This research is based on Pierre Lévy's New Media Theory. The study was conducted in June 2023 in Malang City using qualitative methods. The researcher employed interview techniques with subjects, including the founder and content creator of Tuli Mendongeng. The researcher also analyzed documents and observed the microblog content from the Instagram account @tulimendongeng. The findings are presented through sentences and images from the Instagram account @tulimendongeng.

The content analysis of the microblog from the Instagram account @tulimendongeng shows that Instagram has significant potential as an effective educational information medium, especially through engaging and easily understandable visual and text features. This account successfully disseminates information about sign language, deaf culture, and other social issues in a participatory manner, encouraging active interaction from the audience. In line with Pierre Lévy's New Media Theory, Instagram functions as a space for knowledge and collective intelligence, enabling collaboration between information senders and receivers. Thus, Instagram emerges as an inclusive and interactive platform effective in spreading educational information and raising social awareness.
