Abstract

Mathematics is one of the important subjects taught at the elementary school level. Learning mathematics for students will improve their knowledge and critical and creative thinking skills. The independent curriculum aims to deepen concepts and strengthen their abilities according to the talents and interests of students. Based on the statement of the homeroom teacher for grade 1, there are several problems faced by students, namely students do not understand the material on addition and subtraction arithmetic operations, this can be seen from the average value of student learning outcomes, which is 65, during learning the teacher uses the finger counting method. This study aims to develop counting box media for grade 1 elementary school students.
The learning media that will be developed is counting box media to help students and teachers in the learning process, especially mathematics lessons with addition and subtraction arithmetic operations, learning media can also help students be more active in learning. The development research uses the ADDIE model. The ADDIE model has 5 stages, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. The subjects in this study were grade 1 elementary school students with a total of 25 students. The analysis techniques used in this study are qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis.
The counting box media resembles a suitcase, there are 2 sides, the first side contains addition and subtraction questions in the form of spin, the second side is a place to store toy eggs, there are 15 holes to put toy eggs. How to use the media is to spin the spin, the needle will stop at the question, take the egg according to the question, put it in the hole, count the number of eggs, take the number according to the number of eggs, stick the number on the board. The use of media in learning is that students come forward in turns, students spin the spin, students count the questions with the help of toy eggs, students count the number of eggs in the hole, students take the number according to the answer to the question, students stick the number on the board. The results of the material validation test obtained a percentage of 85% and media validation obtained a percentage of 86%. The results of the evaluation questions obtained a percentage of 92.7%. The student questionnaire response to the media obtained a percentage of 96%, so it can be concluded that the counting box media is suitable for use in learning mathematics for addition and subtraction material in grade 1 of elementary school.
