Abstract

Background ; Diabetes mellitus is a chronic systemic disease with ongoing treatment. Diabetes mellitus is difficult to cure, but by exercising metabolic control it can be done by implementing self-management of diabetes mellitus. Self-management is expected to help DM sufferers maintain blood glucose ranges within or close to normal limits. Apart from that, self-management is expected to prevent and minimize complications from DM.
Method: The research method uses a case report. In selecting respondents, inclusion criteria were determined. Data collection techniques used the interview method with an assessment form, as well as the test method with the DSMQ (Diabetes Self management Questionnaire) which was taken pre and post intervention.
Results: After the assessment was carried out, nursing problems emerged, namely instability of blood glucose levels and non-compliance. After the self-management intervention, it was discovered that there were changes in the pre and post scores of each respondent. All respondents experienced an increase in self-management scores.
Conclusion: DM patients have the main complaint of often feeling dizzy suddenly or fainting, as a result of a spike in blood sugar levels or a drastic drop in blood sugar levels. Patients who have been given self-management intervention have changes in knowledge that are measured through questionnaires using a Likert scale. After providing the intervention, the patient was able to understand the importance of self-management to control his DM disease
