Abstract
Studying literature is interesting and never stops as long as literary works are still being created. The aim is to describe the form and the meaning of symbols in the poetry collection “Sajak Malam Stanza”. The formulation of the problem is how the forms and the meaning of symbols in the poetry collection. The study focuses on a collection of poems with a semiotic approach. The research uses descriptive research and semiotic analysis. The poems analyzed are black bird, black river, black eye, and black stone with the triangle of meaning in Charles Sander Peirce's theory through three stages of the model, namely the sign, object, and use of the sign.
The poems black bird, black river, and black stone contain cultural and universal symbol forms. Black eye poems contain cultural, universal, and individual symbol forms. The meaning of poetry in black birds has three contexts, namely ethics as a symbol that represents his feelings for the idol, aesthetics that symbolizes the state of one's heart, philosophy as a mighty man. The meaning of black river poetry in the context of ethics as something that is very useful but is in badness, aesthetics that symbolize the situation in the surrounding community, the philosophy is identical to water that is useful for life and black is a badness. The meaning of black stone poetry in the context of ethics occurs things that interfere with community norms such as disrupting the lives of others with stubbornness, aesthetics that symbolize a person's stance, philosophy there is a nature of stubbornness, desperation, and anxiety. The meaning of black eye poetry in the ethical context with mutual respect for the feelings of the beloved, aesthetics has the beauty of creative ideas in its delivery, and philosophy has the nature of openness to love each other, and shows a sense of longing.
