Abstract

One effort to improve students' understanding is through the use of media. This study was conducted based on the need analysis which found a lack of variation and the use of learning media in grade 4 at SDN 1 Kepuharjo. The teacher repeatedly delivered the material without using learning media, resulting in students being less actively involved in learning. Based on these findings, the material on cultural diversity in grade 4 science at SDN 1 Kepuharjo requires learning media that can support teaching and learning activities in the classroom. This study aims to develop a smart box media for cultural diversity in grade 4 elementary school science.
This research used the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of this study were 19 fourth-grade students at SDN 1 Kepuharjo. The research instruments used were questionnaires, observation guidelines, and interview guidelines. The data collection techniques used in this study included observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used two techniques, namely quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
The results of media validation obtained a percentage of 85% with a very valid category, while the validation of material experts obtained a percentage of 80% with a very valid category. The response questionnaire filled out by students obtained a percentage of 87.25%, while the response questionnaire filled out by the classroom teacher obtained a percentage of 90%. Based on these findings, the smart box media can be applied to science learning on the material of cultural diversity in grade 4 elementary school. This research can be used as a reference for further research, especially on the material of cultural diversity or can be expanded to other materials.
