Abstract
Background : Hypertension is a major risk factor of heart failure, stroke, and also the cause of chronic kidney disease. Celery and avocado leaves contain flavonoids, apigenins, and alkaloids that work as anti-hypertension. This study was aimed to investigate the differences in the effectiveness of celery leaves extract and avocado leaves extract toward the changes in the blood pressure of the white male rat models with hypertension.
Method : The population were white male rats (Rattus Norvegicus Strain Wistar), which the age of 2-3 months, the weight of 100-200 gram and the samples ware 24 white male rats. The interventions were done for seven days as follow: the first group were given the celery leaves extract, the second group were given the avocado leaves extract, and the last group as the control group were not given any intervention. The results of the interventions were recorded as the data collection. Paired Sampel T-Test were used for data analysis.
Result : Independen T-Test test showed there was significant difference among 2 groups of study with the result Sig. (0.889) >0,01. The Paired Sample T-Test indicated there were avocado leaves extract proved more effective (13,6%) compared celery leaves extract (8,6%).
Conclusion : The content of flavonoids, apigenin, and alkaloids in celery leaves and avocado leaves serve as anti-hypertension. The use of celery leaves extract and avocado leaves extract give different changes in blood pressure to the white mice with hypertension. The use of avocado leaves extract proved more effective in the blood pressure changes than celery leaves extract.
