Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the perception of the problems faced by student FLSP at UMM and how they overcome these problems in using of songs in learning listening. This research uses qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this research were certain level students who took the listening course in FLSP. The research sample consisted of five students in class, but apparently still had several problems. The instruments used in this research were an interview guide. The findings of this research show that FLSP students face three listening problems in using of songs in learning listening, namely vocabulary, pronunciation, and audio quality. This problem is caused by several factors, such as students encounter new vocab that is still foreign to their ears, said the pronunciation was less clear when the rhythm of the song changed, and because the audio in the classroom could not necessarily produce a clear sound. On the other hand, in dealing with these problems, they have their own solutions to overcome their problems in using of songs in learning listening, such as searching the lyric to looking for the meaning of words they didn't understand, exploring various songs, and listen several times to understand the meaning. The results of this study are expected to provide contributions in information and inputs in the use of songs in learning listening. By points out the difficulties encountered by the FLSP students in listening class, it might extend awareness to the teachers and the learners that experience student difficulties gave contribute to teaching and learning to listening comprehension in the future.
