Abstract

The use of billboards in political campaigns is indeed an effective way because it can reach many people at a relatively affordable cost compared to other media. To ensure that people can easily read, understand and vote for legislative candidates on campaign billboards, it is important to pay attention to the use of language and writing. This research aims to describe and explain the form of promotional diction on billboards for legislative candidates and explain the function of the language used in billboards for legislative candidates. The problem raised in this research concerns the form of promotional diction in legislative candidate billboards and the function of language in legislative candidate billboards.
The research method used is qualitative descriptive research. Qualitative data analysis is carried out constantly and continuously until it is finished or until sufficient data is found. Data analysis activities involve the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.
The results of this research are in the form of diction in the form of jargon, foreign words and abstract words, but what is dominantly used in billboards for legislative candidates is the jargon form of diction. The language functions contained in legislative candidate billboards consist of language functions in terms of the listener, in terms of contact between the speaker and listener, in terms of the topic of the utterance, and in terms of the message. However, what is dominantly used on billboards for legislative candidates is the function of language from the perspective of the listener.
