Local wisdom can be defined as a collection of knowledge, practices, and
values that develop in a particular community or culture, often passed down from
generation to generation. This study aims to analyze the form of diversity of
Balinese local wisdom and the influence of local wisdom on the formation of local
cultural identity in the novel Tarian Bumi by Oka Rusmini.
This research uses qualitative research with analytical descriptive method
and reviewed through the perspective of literary sociology approach. It is
conducted by examining the text of the novel to identify and interpret various
elements of local wisdom and their influence in the dynamics of cultural identity.
The results show that the diversity of local wisdom in the novel Tarian Bumi
is illustrated through various cultural aspects of the caste system, traditional and
religious ceremonies, traditional arts, the role of women, communal living
patterns, the use of Balinese language and belief in ancestors and ancestral
spirits. In addition, local wisdom is proven to have a significant influence on the
formation of cultural identity depicted through the narrative and characters in the
novel. Among them, the influence on culture and social, economy, environment
and education. Local wisdom shapes individual identity, shows loyalty to tradition
despite the challenges of modernization, and creates identity conflicts when
individuals try to balance between tradition and the demands of modernity.
