Abstract

Corrosion can be defined as the damage or destruction of a material due to a chemical process or reaction in the surrounding environment. To find the corrosion rate, you can calculate it based on the weight loss of a metal by conducting research in stages and periodically. The rate of corrosion that occurs on Q235B metal varies depending on the coating method and the length of time soaked in NaCL media. The comparison of the rust levels can be seen clearly and directly. This research aims to determine the corrosion rate of Q235B steel with different and varied coating treatments. With coating, it is hoped that it can minimize the occurrence of corrosion on the container metal. If exposed to corrosion, container metals will be reduced both in terms of physical capacity, and selling prices can decrease. The graph of the corrosion rate is not always from low to high, but vice versa, namely from high to low. This can happen because during the initial cutting process the specimen was not symmetrical, both in thickness and width and length, and when sanding to remove dirt was not perfect / done well. In this study, the corrosion rate was 0.0021 mm/y after immersion for 4 days with painting. Meanwhile, without painting it is 0.0062 mm/y. Soaking for 8 days at 0.0019 mm/y with painting. Meanwhile, without painting it is 0.0106 mm/y. Then soaking for 12 days at 0.0028 mm/y with painting. Meanwhile, without painting it is 0.0123 mm/y. Soaking for 16 days was 0.0229 mm/y with painting. Meanwhile, without painting it is 0.0442 mm/y
