Abstract

Communication can be done verbally or in writing, either directly or indirectly from the speaker to the speech partner. According to Scarle, there are several types of speech acts, one of which is assertive speech acts. Assertive speech acts are statements of sentences or utterances that relate to the truth of sentences such as statements, allusions, complaints and accusations. Assertive speech acts are speech that is included in the study of pragmatics. Assertive speech is conveying actual statements. Based on this, the problem formulation in this research is (1) What is the form of assertive speech acts in culinary offering services at Kontainer Café UMM? (2) What are the functions of assertive speech acts in culinary offering services at Kontainer Café UMM?
Research on the study of assertive speech in culinary offerings at Kontainer Café UMM uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Using recording transcript instruments that are studied in the form of descriptions. This research was conducted at Kontainer Café UMM, because the café uses grammatical forms and behavior that leads to assertive speech. Several stages carried out in this research were data reduction in the form of response questionnaires from employees and transcripts of employee and customer recordings, then analyzed and grouped into types of assertive speech.
The results of this research show the form of assertive speech in offers at Kontainer Café UMM as well as the function of assertive speech in the form of service. There were several types of assertive speech acts in offering culinary delights at Kontainer Café UMM, namely the way employees presented the menu and explained the menu at the café, offered promo menus and some employees felt comfortable and hesitated in conveying complaints or requests to the employees. This assertive speech act carried out by employees at Kontainer Café UMM is also supported by the Standard Operating Procedures that have been established at the café.
