Abstract
M Rheza Maulana B, 2024, 201710030311096, Muhammadiyah Malang University, Faculty of Social Sciences and Politics, Social Welfare Study Program, Family Social Support for Intellectually Disabled Persons in Open Access to Education (at the State Special School (SLB C) for Autism in Kedungkandang, Malang City) Advisor I: Dr. Rinikso Kartono. Advisor II: Hutri Agustino, S.Sos., M.Si
As with individuals in general, persons with disabilities also have the same rights and obligations as others in living a societal life. Persons with disabilities are entitled to equal rights in life, including the right to education. Like other normal children, children with disabilities have the right to attend school so they can develop according to their abilities. Children with intellectual disabilities tend to be forgetful, have difficulty understanding commands from others, are easily distracted, and struggle to comprehend complex matters. Therefore, children with intellectual disabilities require social support from their parents to experience development.
The research method used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. The selection of subjects was done through purposive sampling, or the selection of data sources based on specific considerations. These considerations include individuals who are deemed to have knowledge about what the researcher is seeking. The data analysis utilized includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.
From the research on "Family Social Support for Children with Intellectual Disabilities in Accessing Education," it was found that family social support plays a crucial role in the growth and development of children with intellectual disabilities. The forms of social support provided by families include informational support, appraisal or esteem support, instrumental or material support, and emotional support. The impact of family social support on children with intellectual disabilities includes increased motivation to engage in positive activities, the ability to complete tasks at school and home effectively, and a smoother teaching and learning process due to the material or instrumental support provided by the family.
