Abstract
The use of ScrapSclupt media and the mnemonic method is one alternativelearning method that involves visual, kinesthetic, and tactile aspects to help overcome letter discrimination difficulties. This study aims to describe the implementation of ScrapSclupt media and mnemonic methods as well as the letter distinction abilities of ASD students at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Malang with the
implementation of ScrapSclupt media and mnemonic methods.
This study used a qualitative descriptive approach and was conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Malang with nine ASD students as subjects. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested through triangulation techniques. The results of the study show that ScrapSclupt media and mnemonic methods were implemented according to the individual needs of students through grouping based on the type of letter distinction difficulties. Learning was carried out in a structured manner through initial and final activities that were carried out consistently, as well as core activities consisting of the stages of basic concept introduction, contextual learning, learning variations, and reflection. The results of the study also show positive developments in the letter discrimination abilities of students with ASD, as indicated by an increase in the ability to visually distinguish similar letters, an increase in accuracy in pronouncing consonant digraphs, and an increase in consistency in the use of capital and small letters. Thus, the use of ScrapSculpt media and mnemonic methods can help improve the letter
discrimination skills of students with ASD gradually and continuously.
