Center Java province is one of the six provinces in Java Island. The economic growths in this province are below the economic national growths, therefore there is a need to accelerate this growth. Furthermore, growth acceleration can be done by specializing economic activities. Thus specialization could be performed if each region concentrates on its potential sector, so the resource usage in each region can be dealt efficiency based on its potential. The purpose of this research is to find out the region classification in Center Java Province, to identify the potential sectors which could be the growth motor in each region, and also to analyze the region specialization level in Center Java Province in 2002-2006. In addition, the objects of this research are regencies and cities which are located in Center Java Province. Data that will be used are gross regional domestic product based on its industrial origin at constant price in the year of 2000. The analyzes tools to find out the region classification is Klassen tipology, while Location Quotient is used to identify the potential sectors which could be the growth motor in each region. Further, region specialization index is used in order to analyze the region specialization level. The result shows that the potential sectors in each sector are different. Region which has the largest potential sectors is Banyumas residency with 7 potential sectors. From the whole view, it can be seen that potential sectors in Center Java Province are agriculture, financial, ownership & business services, and services. the region specialization index of Center Java Provinces is less then 1, it is indicated that the economic status in this province is not well specialization. However only Magelang city which can be specialization (index > 1) especially at tersier sector.
