Abstract

The disaster of high temperature-mud spraying from small part of field in Siring village, Porong-Sidoarjo, East Java, resulted in great losses for the people who lived around the area. It also happened on the children in their growing period. In line with the great effect, the overflow phenomena left in question for most society. Information coming to the children related to the cause of the flood- mud made them reveal different perception in responds it. Childhood is period in which the kids learn to develop daily concept, meaning that they do observation from what they see or hear to create a concept or respond. This research purposed to find out perception of disaster from children of flooded mud victims PT. Lapindo Brantas in Porong, Sidoarjo. This study used descriptive qualitative research and conducted on 3 to 9 of June, 2007. It covered 6 subjects and parted into two groups based on their age of 10 and 11 years old. The data was taken using FGI, an interview conducted on small group. Then the data was analyzed using qualitative analysis. The research showed that in general the children of flooded mud victim had negative perception of disaster, that describe all knowledge (knowing or not) and same respond on the object being percept. The research subject said that the disaster of flooded mud in Porong, Sidoarjo happened because the workers of PT. Lapindo were careless and gave no attention to the rule in doing their work to drill natural gas. Other, it was because the God had mad see the greed of PT. Lapindo, as result He send the disaster that keep happening and getting great. What the kids revealed was related to what they saw and heard from everyday conversation or mass media and electronic.
