Teenagers is a figure that is in the process of change from childhood to adulthood. In an attempt to successfully accepted by society or their peers, teens need to learn to recognize, interpret, and react appropriately to social situations. One of the tasks that must be controlled by the development of adolescents is to achieve social competence to make adjustments with everyday life. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there are differences in social competence among adolescents who live in the city and adolescents who live in the village. While the variables of this research is the place to stay as independent variables, and adolescent social competence as the dependent variable. The population was 6 SMU Surabaya who live in the city amounted to 35 students and Tapen Bondowoso SMU students who live in the village totaled 35 students. Using a purposive sampling technique. How to deploy scale data retrieval, namely the social competence scale, while data analysis technique used is the T-test. Results obtained from this study can be concluded that there are differences in social competence are highly significant (t = 3.060: p = 0.003) in terms of place of residence where the teenagers who live in villages have a higher social competence (x = 150.11) compared to adolescents who live in the city (x = 130.83). Adolescent relationships in which he lives greatly affects social competence. Social competence of adolescents who live in the city can be said to be less focused, social relations can be said estranged, indifferent and consequently individual self-limiting attitudes arise in the community. While adolescents who lived in the village, more have good social competence and direction. They know each other between one another, living with a sense of helping on the basis of kinship.
