Abstract

Along this time, math learning in class used lecture method which was so theoretic so that the students have difficulty in concept understanding. The effect was students considered math as a difficult and un-interesting lesson. It could be shown from evaluation (daily test) students which got value under the Minimum Finishing Study Standard. To find the solution of the problem, there should be found the right learning strategy which could increase the ability of mathematic concept mastery in students. In this research, the writer used Class Action Research. Teacher has role as facilitator to make the students dominant (student centered). One way to create optimum learning process, there could be used a cheap and easy found media. To find ball volume and vast formula, there could be used sand and thread with direction. According to Formative test analysis cycle I result, there were 72,22% (26 students) had fulfilled the finishing study criteria and 27,78% (10 students) un-fulfilled. In cycle II 97,22 % (35 students) finished while 2,72 % (1 students)un-finished after effort to understand the ball-vast concept by using sand and thread media. Classical finishing ideally was 85%. It means that the finishing study target had been fulfilled. There was a 59,72% increasing. It showed that by using learning media, the understanding to Ball volume and vast could be increased. Generally, the students was so interesting with the learning using media than lecture from the teacher. This positive result was an important condition for evaluation in important level for evaluation in higher level like mathematic connection ability. There could be percepted that the material used more meaningful for them since it contained a contextual and real concept for them. The students get “confidence” which would raise their motivation and positive sight to the math. They also got “democracy and cooperative” nuance in learning math. The result showed that after learning media usage, there was an increasing in volume and vast material understanding and the reflection of action from action, observation to reflection from all cycle also fit with the teacher’s target. If learning process is always applying cycle in research, class action with mathematic learning media, the writer is sure that there would be no more student have difficult in math learning and math would be no longer a difficult material. It could increase the quality of math learning. The students would be motivated to learn with fun condition
