Abstract

Teachers are one of the most important resources in the world of education. Changes in the education system and work demands require a teacher to have a spirit of dedication and full involvement in order to be able to work optimally or what can be called work engagement. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of optimism on work engagement in elementary school teachers. This research uses a quantitative correlational approach to determine the influence between two variables. The subjects in this research were 280 elementary school teachers taken using purposive sampling technique. The instrument in this research uses an optimism scale compiled by Mariyanti et. al., (2021). and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) developed by Schaufeli and Bakker (2006). The data analysis method used is the simple linear regression method. The research results show that there is a positive and significant influence of optimism on the work engagement of elementary school teachers. The magnitude of the influence of optimism on work engagement is 23.2%, while 76.8% is influenced by other variables not examined in this research. This research can be used in scientific development and as a reference for further research in the field of psychology.
