Abstract

This research analyzes the interests of India and China in the struggle for influence in the Maldives which has been going on since the last few years until now. The struggle for influence from India and China in the Maldives has had an impact on important moments in the Maldives such as the presidential election process which ultimately resulted in the slogan India First and India Out, as well as Maldives foreign policy, in the analysis process this article will be divided into several parts, namely. Dynamics of the struggle for political influence in the Maldives, China's interests in the Maldives from a geopolitical perspective, India's interests in the Maldives from a geopolitical perspective, the theory or concept used in this research is the geopolitical concept and the concept of national interest as a reference in conducting research in the research, the research methods used in this research is a qualitative descriptive which will explain the process of struggle for influence and explain the interests of China and India in the Maldives, and the data collection process in preparing this research is in the form of a literature study, in the form of collecting pre-existing data in the form of scientific journals, news articles, theses, dissertations, working papers as references/primary data in data collection in order to obtain valid data, the results of this research are, the reason for the struggle for influence in the Maldives is China's interest in the geographical location of the Maldives which is considered very strategic to be used as a transit point China's fuel or export and import commodities in the BRI (Beld and Road Initiative) program, and India's concerns about the threat of Chinese hegemony in Asia, especially the South Asia region, which is India's territory as China's competitor on the Asian continent in various sectors.
