Abstract

Background :Elderly people generally experience decreased ability in various organs and body systems. One of the diseases that often appears is joint disease which can disturb the balance of the elderly. One of the joint diseases, namely Gouty Arthritis, can cause joint stiffness and make the elderly vulnerable to the risk of falls and decreased muscle strength. The Otago Exercise is an exercise designed to prevent falls in the elderly. This home exercise program consists of balance and strengthening exercises tailored to a person's needs.
Objective :This case report aims to determine the results of implementing Otago Exercise in elderly people with gouty arthritis.
Method :This research method uses the case study method. The sample in this study was clients aged >60 years, with gouty arthritis. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observation and physical examination methods.
Results :The subjective evaluation results showed that the patient was able to walk without falling and felt fit. Meanwhile, in the objective evaluation of clients, TUG results were obtained after giving Otago Exercise training, TUG results were obtained at 12 seconds, which means "Mild Fall Risk".
Conclusion :After giving Otago Exercise to elderly clients 3 times a week, it can improve balance when walking without holding on to the client and reduce the client's risk of falling.
