Abstract

Individuals in early adulthood have important developmental tasks, one of which is to feel happy. Happiness itself can be realized by doing activities that are beneficial to oneself and others, one of which is volunteering. While participating in positive activities, namely volunteerism, will help individuals in bringing up positive emotions such as gratitude and happiness. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between gratitude and
happiness in early adults who participate in volunteer activities. The method used in this research is quantitative non-experiment with a correlational design. The sample used in this study was 110 respondents using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was carried out using the spearman correlation test. Gratitude was measured using the Gratitude, Resentment, and Test - Short Form (GRAT-SF) scale and happiness was measured using The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) scale. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant negative relationship with a correlation coefficient of -0.313 and a significance of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means that the higher the gratitude, the lower the happiness. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the hypothesis in this study is rejected.
